The Corporate Responsibility of Honorable Entrepreneurs
At the start of the 2024 summer semester, IHK Managing Director Dr. Sascha Genders (IHK) and Würzburg business ethicist Professor Dr. Harald Bolsinger (THWS) presented a new bilingually produced teaching module for the “Corporate Responsibility” lecture series in the International Management Bachelor’s program and the blended learning course in business ethics in the Business Administration Bachelor’s program at THWS Business School.
“It is a truly unique feature of Germany to have a legally anchored institution that is committed to upholding the decency and morals of honorable business people and, what’s more, that is self-managed by the entrepreneurial community od the region!” says Professor Dr. Bolsinger, explaining the inclusion of the content in the compulsory curriculum of his lectures. This positive example of entrepreneurial self-organization by the respective chambers is something that international students also need to learn about in order to understand the special features of Germany’s constitutionally guaranteed entrepreneurial freedom, Bolsinger continues.
The impetus for the implementation of the teaching module goes back to the “AG Verantwortungsregion Mainfranken”, which was jointly launched in 2018 by the Würzburg-Schweinfurt University of Applied Sciences (THWS), Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, the Würzburg-Schweinfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Chamber of Crafts for Lower Franconia with a declaration of intent to “promote the perception of corporate responsibility in the Mainfranken region” and to which Region Mainfranken GmbH now also belongs.
